Salt Management Plan
The Salt Management plan will always be evolving because it is based on best management practices. The Town of Innisfil will always strive to ensure a high level of safety on our sidewalks and roads. As new technologies and ideas develop, the salt management plan will change to incorporate these ideas. The plan will set out guidelines for continually improving our methods for keeping the roads safe and reducing the use of salt. The plan will also provide a benchmark from which we can monitor our progress.
The Plan is activity-based and follows a framework consistent with the principles of continual improvement. It includes the following elements:
- Periodic Review and Analysis of Industry Practices
- Implementation and Documentation of the Plan
- Education and Training of Staff
- Monitoring and Analysis
- Management Review
- Practices and Policy Revision
Responsibilities
Everyone within the Town connected to winter road maintenance has some responsibility for developing, implementing and reviewing the success of the Salt Management Plan. It is through a cooperative effort that the Town will reduce the environmental effects of its road salt while maintaining safe roads.
